The latest on solar driven screens

What is the latest on solar cells driven screens?

To find an answer on that we first need to know how to define them.

¨A solar-driven awning uses solar cells to capture sunlight and power its operation¨

An intergrated battery stores the energy during the day even on cloudy days.

This allowing the awning to function whenever you need it to. The batteries can store energy for up to 12 hours.

Compared to traditional versions, solar-powered options tend to be 20-40% more expensive initially.

But they offer long-term savings on energy bills and reduced maintenance costs.
And because it doesn't need electricity from the grid, installation costs will be lower.

Over time, the investment pays off through enhanced efficiency and environmental benefits.

Like all new products on the market , there are limitations. For the moment there are only smaller awnings available. But also normal sizes shutters and screens with these solar cells systems.

We expect that these limitations will disappear in the near future.

Ask pro-shade Marbella if there are solar driven awnings available for your home.

Shutters op to 5 M2
Max 3,5 wide, 2,5 height

Screens up to 12 M2
Max 4 m wide. 3 height

Can you safe money with awnings?

Awnings are a smart investment for homeowners looking to save money on energy bills, particularly during the sweltering summer months.

By providing shade over windows and outdoor living spaces, awnings significantly reduce the amount of heat that enters your home, which in turn lessens the reliance on air conditioning.

Studies have shown that properly installed awnings can lower indoor temperatures by up to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, translating to a decrease in energy consumption and cost.

Moreover, with less strain on your cooling system, you'll also prolong its lifespan, avoiding costly repairs and replacements.

Additionally, awnings can enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home while creating comfortable outdoor areas, making them a practical and stylish solution for energy efficiency that benefits both your wallet and your environment.

Shade sail project step by step

Shade sail project step by step

These are the four stages from start to finish of a shade sail project. When you contact Shade Sail Marbella we will arrange for one of our experienced shade sail professionals to perform a survey on site.

STEP ONE (0-3 DAYS)

Based on a survey at location we will send you an estimation of prices.

Or…
Based on photos and measurements we send you an estimation of prices.

We will discuss your wishes when and where you want to have shade and we will inform you about possibility’s and possible designs. After this visit and our estimation of prices you will have a pretty good indication of the costs of the project. We show you the samples of our sails, and choose a colour.

STEP TWO (2-7 DAYS)

Measuring and simulation. Here we will simulate the sail(s) with measuring tape and tripods. The perimeter of the sail(s) will be visible and we can see exactly where we will have shade at what time of day. You can still give us input and when finished, you will approve our simulation. At this point we have the sizes of the sails and supports and know how to mount the sail at your property. (Pole, wall etc.)

After down payment we will start production of the sails.

STEP THREE (3-7 DAYS)

Hardware installation. At this stage it is not essential that you are in attendance, as long as we can gain access to the area and have access to power and water. We will prepare the hardware fittings and if necessary will create a concrete footing for the pole(s).

STEP FOUR (7-14 DAYS)

Completion of the project. We will install the sails.

Final payment.

Sometime after strong winds we will come back to re-tension the sails. This is included in the service. In some situations we can combine steps.

What colour shade sail block´s more UV radiation ?

My first reaction on this quest was to ask myself is, am I cooler or hotter in a black T-shirt vs. a White T-shirt... ?
A black T-shirt is obviously hotter. Then some thinking began. If you wear a dark-coloured shirt, you get hotter because the colour absorbs more UV rays.

So white reflects heat, black absorbs it. Darker coloured shade sail fabrics are better at blocking UV rays than lighter ones. So a dark blue, green, or black would be better than yellow or white.

Since the canopy isn't in direct contact with your body the black fabric will block/absorb more of the sun's UV-radiation than a lighter colour. A shade sail fabric is thin enough that it is going to allow some amount of radiation to pass.  So the more important question is which colour is better at blocking this radiation. The black fabric is certainly going to be hotter to the touch, but since you are at least a meter under the sail it does not reflect the heat on your body.

What about reflection of the radiation?
Darker colours generally block more light creating more shade and a darker environment under the sail. A darker environment will reflect less radiation than a lighter one.

If you are in the shade but close to a reflective surface, such as a swimming pool, shiny white wall or white outdoor table, you may still be exposed to UV rays that bounce off these surfaces. Anything that causes a glare in the sun has the potential to increase your UV exposure by reflecting and scattering radiation from any direction - including beneath the shade sail.

So to bring all this together, the best shade sail will have a dark coloured tightly woven fabric. If you have trouble finding one in your area please contact Shade Sail Marbella in Spain.
